Utilizing Loran C TD’s on RD33 Furuno’s RD33 uses data from your GPS to determine position, speed and course. The unit does not receive actual Loran data signals. Because Loran C has been decommissioned in the U.S.A., the practical use of this application is so that you can continue to use your saved Loran C positions using modern GPS. A first experiment to evaluate the usefulness of differential LORAN-C for buoy position checking was held along the Nova Scotia south shore between August and Septemberby the Telecommunications and Electronics Branch of the Canadian Coast Guard.
